Reality Bites: Ireland's Rappers

Current mood:

This is going to be so good. I was seriously loling at the article on the RTE website just now.

There has in fact been a long running feud between the Class A'z and the Working Class Army not unlike the feuds which have broken out amongst American rap stars such as Jay-Z and 50 Cent. The feud between the Dublin rappers is explored within the film as is the rap battle scene made famous by the Eminem film 8 Mile. Like in America, Irish rappers also attempt to settle their differences by having rap battles in underground clubs which are judged by their peers. The threats and insults traded by rival rappers at these events almost have to be seen to be believed and whilst the footage may seem more reminiscent of an illegal fight club, actual violence is rare.

Wow. The bit about fight club is amazing, yet sad. RTE is the biggest joke ever; it's a bastion of nepotism, shit programming, government-led propaganda and retards. Do half these people actually have qualifications to be journalists?

They just don't understand that hip-hop music doesn't have to be full of gun-wielding thugs hell-bent on drive-bying each other in Compton.

this..at one point they were trying to put words in our mouth..''say class a'z are this and that for the camera'..fuck off. I cant speak for anyone else, but i know the majority of the lads have different opinions on music, our opinions are VERY different but thats as far as it goes..no doubt theyll have this looking like a fucking milkybar cracker edition of Beef DVD

that being said theres a deep scene with Lunitics ma discussing his music which id imagine will be one of the good parts of the whole thing.

Ah I wouldn't worry too much the writing on the RTE website is a bit shit in general they probably didn't watch it properly. I saw the first installment of this Reality Bites doc series In Bed With the Irish on monday and it wasn't nearly as cringe as it should have been.

I only caught the last 10 minutes but it seemed fine. Considering the kind of knobs who'd volunteer to be filmed in such a thing it was sort of tolerable.
