Gear to get for starting out in Production
November 21, 2007 12:35AM

Howdy,
Seen a few people on here lately looking for advice on what gear to get for starting out.
Thought it'd be good to have all the advice in one place.

I reckon for starting out a basic version of Cubase(vst) and the Emu Xboard 61 would be a good investment for learning the ropes.

id recomend the same as above but get a copy of reason and recycle.

an down load as many drum sample packs as u can get ur hands onLaughing

also it goes without sayin a decent set of speakers instead of usin ur shitty pc ones for people startin out even run ur pc sounds through ur cd player(if it has good speakers) by gettin a phono cable
place the 1 output line in2 ur socket for headphones on the pc
an the other 2 in 2 the back of ur cd player an run it of the aux on the cd player fairly staright forward

Or sample them straight from record if you are going to be a 'REAL' producer.

I feel that to start out you should learn how to sample. What ever you sample, be it from records or live instruments, you should learn how to and how to manipulate samples.

i know what you meant it was just a pretty pointless comment if they were looking for gear then they already think they can do it.

what? its not a pointless comment... the gear aspect is important , software, hardware they are right u have to have a few to get started fo sure. But also talent cause fo example i gave a few soft to some of my friends in my country they were incapable to do shit after a few months cause no creativity.
So fo me what people need before all to get started is having a creativ mind.

if you're broke then a copy of fruity loops will do, just so you get some experience and see if beat-making is something you want to pursue.
nobody has recommended any hardware yet??

everybody here turned to the dark side??

talent comment was also pointless.

anyone who comes in to ask for gear may or may not have the talent to use it but theyre not asking am i talented enough to use this properly theyre asking for advice on where to start. simple as comments like that are unhelpful and unneccessary

Alright lads, just starting to make some beats, anyone tell me what the
best pair of budget flat headphones i could get for mixing? I have a
pair of AKG K55's but not sure if they'll give an accurate mix so can
anyone advise me on some decent flat ones to get at a budget price. Also if my
K55's are any good, nice one lads

9th Wonder put it best...
A dude can come to a game in brand new Jordans fresh out of the box and do nothing and another dude can come in worn-out Converse Chuck Taylors and do his thing.

Its not what you use,Its how you use it.
I like Fruity Loops and a wave chopping program..I got headphones a relative knicked out of a studio...and thats it.

I've seen people make the dopest beats with just their mouth and I can name countless horrible beats that have been made with thousand euro equipment....
Theres a bum on shop street who plays the spoons and it sounds better than some of the shit I'v heard on myspace and soundclick..it doesn't matter, its what you put into it!!!
