The Return of Irish hip-hop
Featuring:
Ri-Ra (ex Scary Eire)
3rd Eye Surfers (residents)
Dj Wool (Influx)
Dj Mayhem
Open Mic Session
Sat 18th November Temple Bar Music Centre
The Mad Skillz club returns from a months absence and present the return of
Irish hip-hop. Since it started in Eamonn Dorans a few months back it has
definitely become one of the most talked about clubs, with its open mic
policy and raw lyrical and beat driven energy. This time the club comes to a
larger venue in what is sure to be one of the best nights of Irish the past
few years has thrown up.
Who better to reintroduce the lyrical side of things than the lead vocalist
from Ireland's most notorious hip-hop crew, Scary Eire. RI-Ra has been
rapping for a very long time. Having penned the classic "Dole Q" and
supported U2 amongst others Ri-Ra comes with a bus-load of experience. His
"40 Shades of Greed" Ep (currently available at Abbey Discs and Big Brother
records) is a killer mix of dope beats and Celtic funk with Ri-Ra's
unmistakeabley Ruff Irish accent skillfully emceeing over the mix. He also
has another Ep due for release later in the year, which is a collaboration
with British Dub Supremo, Adrian Sherwood. And if that wasn't enough Ri-Ra
"steals the show" as a featured artist on a track by London Ragga MC Major
(from the album "My Mood" on Disco Volante).
Also featured on the night are Ireland's premier hip-hop band and Mad Skillz
residents 3rd Eye Surfers. Fresh from hectic few months holed up in the
recording studio the Surfers will be coming with alot of new beats as well
as known crowd pleasers such as Dirty Aul' City and Craic Agus Ceoil. As
most people now know the Surfers are fronted by 1998 Irish DMC champ Dj Wool
(who will also be doing a Dj slot on the night) as well as 4 MC's: Lisa Dee,
MC Poetic, Big Al and Richie C. Expect some Boomin' beats and Filthy
Folklore!!
And on the turntablist side of things, Irish DMC runner-up 2000, Dj Mayhem
will be displaying his reputable skills of cutting and scratching, and
juggling his way to a sure fireplace as an Irish representative in the world
championships in years to come.
Not content with introducing just Dj's of the next generation we have the
Open Microphone Session which is our way of showcasing and discovering new
emceeing talent in Ireland.
Screw the New School, this is True School!!!
