THE BOOTIE SHAKE SOUND SYSTEM

    INTRODUCING

ARVEENE, DJ SCOPE WITH

MC’S POETIC  AND LITTLE TREE PLUS MOVES AND SHAKES FROM

TML B-BOYS & THE BOOTIE GIRLS.

The Bootie Shake Sound System comprises of a group of hard working music lovers led by Arveene's trade mark style of electro, breakbeat and hip hop with lyrics and freestyle from Dublin's own Third Eye Surfer member MC Big AL, MC Little Tree (the ragga specialist), Scratches and cuts from DJ Scope, breaking from the TML B-boys and a whole lot of shaking from the Bootie shake girls.

In 1997 a new sound was emerging from the Detroit scene. It was a sound based around parliament style funk, Kraftwork's electro weirdness, heavy bass frequencies and lyrics associated with the Miami Bass movement. It incorporated all these sounds and fused them together to form a new wave of music, Ghetto-Tek or Booty music. Pioneered by the likes of DJ Assault, DJ funk and Disco D. this music was born out of the inner city for the city. Around the same time Arveene was working in a record store when in one of the deliveries was a box full of this new sound. No body really knew what to think of it but he embraced it with open arms and soon found that it crossed the barrier between straight techno, Chicago house and hip - hop. He incorporated this sound with his breakbeat and hip-hop style It was then that the bootie shake sound system in its current form started to shape.

Arveene had an Idea of putting on a party like no other. The vision was clear to bring together different forms of entertainment. Booty dancers (Shaking ass and bouncing around the stage), break dancers with the razor sharp skill of Kung – fu legends, pulling power moves left right and centre. A scratch master, with precision cuts and timing. An MC with the lyrical flow of ancient poets and the dirty tongue of the ghetto. The sweet soulful voice of a reggae toaster and last but not least a DJ playing tough booty minded rhythms and sounds to an ass shaking crowd.

The origins of the bootie shake stem from the mutual feeling of the group as a whole. They were tired of going to the masses of lame clubs with boring dj’s playing boring music to a board crowd. It was time to push the boundaries out and follow a new direction. The idea behind the booty shake is simple; they feed off each other’s talent and skill. Every one involved gets inspiration from one another which intern gives them the feel to display their own personal gifts.  To Quote Arveene “When I watch Bon from the TML Crew pull off one of his killer heads spins it gives me that special energy to rock the club, its an amazing feeling”.

So far the bootie shake have dropped their bomb on WITNNESS EVENTS at the Storehouse along side Leeroy (flightcrank/Ex prodigy), Jazzie B(Soul2Soul) and Groove Armada at the WITNNESS Launch Party. “ That’s one of the freshest vibes I’ve seen for a while” Tom – Groove Armada. They also headlined the Ali G after show party at the Ambassador.

The thing about the bootie shake is that it brings together music, art and dance under one roof giving you a full spectrum of entertainment. It's a modern take on the roots of these art forms. Collectively it fuses to give you a new approach to a tired format at a time when things in club culture need a new take on reality, thus bringing the clubber to a new level of thinking and mind state. Breaking boundaries and opening the mind to new ideas is one of the mottoes that this movement stands for. The bootie shake is fresh, ready and thoroughly alive. Be prepared, for the bootie shake has arrived.........

THE INDIVIDUALS THAT MAKE UP THE BOOTIE SHAKE SOUND SYSTEM

ARVEENE

Having grown up in and around the music industry, Arveene is one of Irelands most talented and prodigious DJs. Now a days Arveene is starting to rock the world (Glasgow, South Africa, New York, Poland…) Following many high profile support slots for the likes of Ian Brown, DJ Premier, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Nightmares on Wax, Tom Middleton (Cosmos), Freddy Fresh and Rennie Pilgrim amongst others. Arveene has just finished a tour of new york and a Red Bull Music Academy tour of Germany and Poland. Day to Day Arveene Works in Dublin's trendiest record shop "Carbon" records  which is a division of the ultra cool London Label of the same name. Not satisfied with just Djing Arveene is also a founder of Dublin Distribution, one of the country's leading distributors of House and Techno. During the summer of 2000 Arveene took part in the annual international music conference, "The Red Bull Music Academy". As well as playing the Witness festival in 2000 and 2001 Arveene's current Dj residencies include, Choice Cuts@Mono, Witnness @ the Store House and Ultra lounge - Morrison in Dublin as well as Monthly residencies in Cork, Limerick, Sligo and Galway. The most important thing to know about Arveene is that he rips up any dance floor with a smile on his face and a damn good heart. He's young and he's hungry, you'll be hearing about him for a while. Believe it!!!

The Scratch Master – DJ SCOPE one of the best young talents on the hip-hop scene, his cuts are fresh and his beats are deadly. Scope has been spinning vinyl for the past three years and in that time has established himself as a cutting edge DJ who never fails to move the crowd. In essence the Scope style incorporates a wide genre of music, with a hip hop philosophy at its back- bone. You can hear everything from beat driven soul and funk breaks through to hard-hitting Hip-Hop classics both new and old. His scratch routines have earned him much praise and accolades such as 3rd place in the Irish DTF Battle 2000, 1st place in UCD Battle 2000, and 2nd place in Inter College Battles 2000.

Spending a lot of time scouring the east and west coast of America looking for the perfect beat, Scope became a regular in and around the East Village Bar scene in New York holding residencies in joints such as SOLAS (David Holmes favourite gig in New York and a place where the legendary Frankie Knuckles has graced the decks on many an occasion) Cachettes, Drop the bomb and The Beat Down. Scope returned to his home town (Dublin) to run his own night, CHOICE CUTS every Friday at Mono, which has been attracting large crowds who loyally attend to catch Ireland’s premier hip hop fraternity spin and cut the finest beat orientated music around.

At the end of the day Scope is a true soul brother who believes in his music, his philosophy is one that never settles for anything but the best and this is what makes him stand out from the crowd. He is a true pioneer that believes in following one’s own path this becomes very clear when you hear him play his wide-ranging sets and he drops that tune that makes you lose control.

MC LITTLE TREE

The LITTLE TREE started sprouting in london, playing in bands at many venues including the rock garden, the venue, the marquee and the town and country, touring numerous times the length and breadth of the uk`s club scene. finding no solid roots, little tree moved to Dublin, growing branches with bands feeding off r`n`b, soul, funk, hip hop, rock and lots of reggae and ragga. The MISSING LINK CREW

Exciting times lie ahead of Irish B-BOY Champions the TML crew, their sucessful trip last November to the World Break dance Championships the Battle of the Year (www.battleoftheyear.de) in Germany, has seen them qualify for the Urban Games being held in London this September. Currently their time is consumed by training and maintaining their high standard as being the first crew since the Belfast City crew in the early ninties to represent this Island .The crew represent all the elements of breakin' as each breaker has his own unique style.

BON is the power mover of the crew who started breakin' in Germany where he took 7th place in the World Championships and is now the reigning Irish National Champion. With his speed and variety of moves including head-spins, mills and flares he is a jaw dropping experience in action.                    B-INSPECTA, with his amazingly fast, almost impossible combos and freezes is a truly spectacular breaker representing another pivital asset to the H.T.L. crew.                                                                                                           KUMI from china, adds an oriental flavour to the crew. Witnessing KUMI do his 'elastic band', is to see freaky, strange and original moves as part of a dance routine.

T.M.L. have performed at almost every happening thing in Ireland such as the tiger beer launch, the Trinity Ball, Lillie's Bordello, Guinness Storehouse, D.C.U., Vicar St. and Witnness Festival 2001. Members of the crew have also been involved in many charity gigs while working very hard to get the hip-hop scene back to Ireland. They are doing justice to the scene by teaching breakin' to kids all over the country, finding more and more new coverts along the way. T.M.L.'s main goal is to get as many people breakin’ as possible to represent the art of breakdancing as one of the cornerstones of hip-hop and to enjoy themselves in the process.
